Out of Darkness Walk!

Each year staff and students at Auldern Academy participate in a charitable walk to give back to the community. We are excited that this is Auldern Academy’s third year participating in the “Out of Darkness Walk”. We participated on September 30, 2018 at the “Out of Darkness Walk” in Fuquay Varina, NC. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) growing network of local chapters in all 50 states bring together those who have lost someone to suicide, individuals struggling with their own mental health and their families, those with lived experiences, mental health professionals, community and business leaders, and others interested in preventing suicide. The “Out of the Darkness” community and overnight walks benefit the AFSP by raising awareness on suicide and depression, raising money for research and education to prevent suicide from taking place, and providing assistance and a safe outlet for survivors of suicide.  The students and staff wore their color honor beads during the walk.

Honor Bead Colors Signify:

White – Lost a Child

Red – Lost a Spouse or Partner

Gold – Lost a Parent

Orange – Lost a Sibling

Purple – Lost a Relative or Friend

Silver – Lost First Responder / Military

Green – Struggled Personally

Blue – Support the Cause

Teal – Friends and Family of Someone Who Struggles

[Note:  With the incredible work of our Student Life Director, Ms. Tasha Rembert, and other staff and students who participated, our students raised more than $1,000 from generous donors to help those suffering with mental illness.]
