Thomas Cornwall, MD
Medical Director
Thomas Cornwall received his Medical Doctorate from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. He completed a medical internship studying neurology and neuropathology at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He went on to spend two years in general psychiatry training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, remaining there another two years to complete a child psychiatry fellowship. He then spent five years at the Duke Psychoanalytic Institute at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His career has spanned some 4 decades.
Dr. Cornwall has held positions at Dorthea Dix Hospital that include the Director of Child Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic, Director of Adolescent Admission Unit and Director of Adolescent Inpatient Services. Following his work at Dorthea Dix Hospital, he opened a private practice which continues today. He is also currently the staff psychiatrist at Holly Hill where he fills the positions of Medical Director and Clinical Director of Youth Services.
Dr. Cornwall has been licensed in the State of North Carolina since 1972 and has been certified in Psychoanalysis by the American Psychoanalytic Association since 1983. He has consulted and served on the board of many agencies dealing with children, adolescents and families. He is a published author of some 13 psychiatrically related articles.
Dr. Cornwall has been the Medical Director at Auldern Academy since its inception in 2001. Our administration building was named in his honor due to his dedication and service to the students and families of Auldern Academy.
